Start by making a glossary of key terms from your revision notes: diffusion, osmosis, active transport, photosynthesis, transpiration. Write each definition in your own words, then check against the syllabus. Cambridge examiners reward clear scientific explanations rather than memorised definitions, so focus on understanding what each term means in context.
Plant nutrition (photosynthesis), human nutrition (digestion), transport in plants and animals, respiration, coordination and response, and inheritance appear consistently across most exam sessions. Enzymes and biological molecules also feature heavily. Your Diagnostic Report will show which of these high-yield topics need more attention before the final exam.
Yes. The mock exams test practical skills including drawing and labelling biological diagrams, interpreting experimental results, describing methods, and analysing data from investigations. Paper 6 style questions assess your ability to plan experiments, identify variables, and evaluate procedures, exactly as the Cambridge assessment objectives require.
Core questions target grades C to G and test fundamental knowledge. Extended questions target grades A* to C and include higher-order skills such as explaining processes, analysing data, and applying concepts to unfamiliar scenarios. The mock papers clearly label tier-specific content so you practise at the right level.
Highlight every topic where your score fell below 60%. Rank them by how heavily they are tested in the syllabus (photosynthesis and respiration carry more marks than, say, drugs). Spend 20 minutes per day on the weakest topics using revision notes, then test yourself with topic questions. Retake that mock chapter after one day.
Use the command word as your guide. 'Describe' means state what happens. 'Explain' means say why it happens. Include specific biological terms; for example, "the enzyme's active site changes shape (denatures)" scores higher than "the enzyme stops working." Always link cause to effect in your explanation.
Students often draw faint, sketchy lines or fail to use a sharp pencil. Label lines must touch the structure exactly and should not cross. Cambridge examiners also report that candidates frequently mislabel the chloroplast as a nucleus or confuse the xylem with phloem. Practise drawing and labelling key structures from memory.
The most common errors are forgetting units on axes, plotting points as dots instead of neat crosses, and drawing curves that do not follow the trend of the data. Students also describe the pattern without explaining the biology behind it. Always state the relationship first, then use your knowledge to interpret what it means.
Use revision notes to build understanding of each topic. Then attempt a mock exam chapter to test that knowledge under timed conditions. Review your Diagnostic Report to spot gaps. Finally, practise past papers to build exam stamina and timing. This cycle, learn, test, diagnose, practise, is the most effective revision strategy.
Complete at least one full mock paper per topic (21 chapters) spread across your revision period. In the final six weeks, aim for three full timed mock papers that simulate the real exam. Each attempt builds familiarity with question styles, improves your timing, and trains you to manage the pressure of the examination hall.
