It is considered one of the more demanding A Level sciences because it combines heavy content across physical, inorganic, and organic chemistry with mathematical problem-solving and practical skills. Many students find topics like Equilibria, Reaction Kinetics, and Organic Synthesis challenging because they require both conceptual understanding and the ability to apply that understanding to unfamiliar exam questions. With structured revision, topic-by-topic practice, and regular diagnostic feedback, the difficulty becomes much more manageable.
It has 5 papers in total. AS Level candidates sit Paper 1 (Multiple Choice), Paper 2 (AS Structured Questions), and Paper 3 (Advanced Practical Skills). A2 Level candidates then sit Paper 4 (A2 Structured Questions) and Paper 5 (Planning, Analysis & Evaluation). Together, these papers assess theory, application, and practical/planning skills across both years of the course.
Combine three things: structured notes to build a strong foundation in each topic, regular practice with past paper questions to get used to exam-style phrasing, and consistent review of your weak areas using diagnostic feedback. Rather than revising topics in isolation, students benefit from revisiting earlier AS topics (like Equilibria and Reaction Kinetics) when studying their A2 counterparts, since Cambridge often builds on these concepts across both years.
The Freemium Plan gives you limited access to Interactive Videos, limited Tutor Credits, and Diagnostic Reports for introductory chapters only. The Premium Plan unlocks full access to all 37 topics, including all Interactive Videos, downloadable Revision Notes for every topic, Diagnostic Reports across all chapters, and additional Tutor Credits to use features like Testpapers and Tutor Support.
Yes. We provide a full archive of past papers with mark schemes, organised by year and session, free of charge. On top of this, Premium and Custom Plan users can generate personalised Testpapers using Tutor Credits filtering by year, session, and paper type to create targeted practice that matches their revision needs.
AS Level covers 22 foundational topics, including Atomic Structure, Chemical Bonding, States of Matter, and an introduction to organic chemistry. A2 Level builds on this with 15 further topics that revisit and deepen subjects like Equilibria, Reaction Kinetics, and Organic Synthesis at a more advanced level, alongside new topics such as the Chemistry of Transition Elements. Both levels also include a practical skills component, assessed through dedicated papers.
