The most difficult topics are electricity (especially circuit calculations), forces and motion (especially vector diagrams and acceleration), waves (especially sound and the electromagnetic spectrum), and energy transformations. Revise them by practising past paper calculation questions, drawing diagrams, and explaining concepts aloud.

Use a formula sheet, group equations by topic, and create a "formula recall" routine. Write each equation from memory daily, say it aloud, and state what each symbol means. Practise applying each equation to at least three past paper questions until recall becomes automatic.

Write down the known values with units, identify the correct equation, rearrange if needed, substitute the values, calculate, and write the answer with the correct unit. Show every step fully and clearly, as Cambridge awards marks for the correct method even if the final answer is wrong.

Paper 2 (Core) covers the Core syllabus and is graded C to G. Paper 4 (Extended) covers the Extended syllabus and is graded A* to G. Extended papers include harder questions, more calculations, and topics not found in the Core syllabus. Most students aiming for an A* to C take the Extended route.

Homeschool students take Paper 6 (Alternative to Practical) instead of Paper 5 (Practical Test). Paper 6 tests the same skills: planning experiments, recording data, drawing graphs, and analysing results, but in a written format. You can prepare using past papers and online simulation tools.
